Or that anyone would even conceive of carving a seahorse into a watermelon. The only sort of cruise I would actually want to go on would be somewhere like Alaska or fijords (as mentioned above) - though now I have mentioned that I am going to spend hours thinking about fijords in a Monthy Python voice!Sheeprustlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14927327455496824702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19344268.post-50423909771331369502011-09-29T05:02:38.485+10:002011-09-29T05:02:38.485+10:00Interesting comments, Denise about the way these c...Interesting comments, Denise about the way these cruises operate. I'm often tempted to go on one, but put off by the "school trip" possibility, and being trapped with a lot of folks I don't like....
Very tempted to to on a cruise around the Norwegian Fjords though...
Also, having been to the Carribean, I now sort-of-fancy a cruise in that part of the world, because the best parts of the trip were the ones spent on ferrys between the islands - just stunning. Pics from part 2 of your blog rally have that exiting "we are going to an exotic island" feeling!
Very interesting, and lovely pictures - thank you so much for sharing! He told me that most of the men from his family are cruise ship stewards, kitchen staff and waiters, and it is making his family quite prosperous. They are sending one of the brightest nephews to college to become a doctor, and an uncle has opened a restaurant in Amsterdam. The cruise lines give them room, board, medical care and training. They learn to speak English and get to see the world. He says the best part of going home is seeing all the new babies. The men work nine months, and go home for three. And now, some of the young women are becoming stewards, wait staff and kitchen help. (In my opinion, it beats staying home and running the place while you have a baby every year.)

Organized tours:
Kyle and I find that if we speak the language, have studied the places we will be visiting, and have a couple good guide books, we can usually avoid the group tours. And isn't it a treat to spend a shore day on board? I love having the whole ship to myself!roxiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14916948065233137971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19344268.post-25830195876763708822011-09-28T22:05:58.244+10:002011-09-28T22:05:58.244+10:00Interesting observations about the difference betw...Interesting observations about the difference between the crew and the workers.

It looks like you had an overall good time (it must have been good or you wouldn't have put down another deposit!).Donna Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07877384848664758611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19344268.post-67425523204838886352011-09-28T14:40:18.298+10:002011-09-28T14:40:18.298+10:00I have so enjoyed your cruise.
