Hyperventilating Take 2

You may remember way back in October when I was hyperventilating... I'm allowed to reveal the source of this excitement now!

On 11 October Kristina Sigler, the copy editor from Vogue Knitting, e-mailled me saying she'd stumbled across my Knitting Art work and loved it, and asking if they could include a little piece about my Knitting Art shop and a painting in their January 2008 issue (which has just been released to subscribers, and will hit the newsagents in a week or so). Honestly, I cried ... and then said YES PLEASE!

Since then I have sent in scans of a few of my paintings (so their designers could choose one), answered a questionnaire about my work, and edited the piece that Kristina wrote. I've also been very good and not mentioned it in public until now (as the editor requested).

Now I'm anxious about whether it's actually IN there or not... in theory, all has gone ahead as planned. But if someone has a copy, can you look for me? It should be in the section called "World Knits" (renamed from "Brit Knits" in my honour, as I'm Aussie not British :) I'm a subscriber now, so I'm not sure when my copy will arrive.

I hope to get back to painting very soon, once my brother's funeral is over (Friday 4 Jan; the inquest showed that he died of a heart attack, as expected). Stay tuned! There will be new paintings!

And Kristina - your e-mail was a massive highlight in what has been a pretty crappy year on many counts. Thank you again.

  1. I am glad to hear, for the sake of you and your family, that you have been able to set a date for your brother's funeral. I know from experience how difficult it is to live in that limbo between a loved one's death and a public recognition of it. I am thinking of you and will continue to think of you.

And as for your happier news, congratulations! I will look for an issue (I'm not a subscriber) so I can check it out and dance around in the store humming about how I "know" you and have some of your beautiful knitting note-cards in my drawer right now. :)

  21. I can't wait to see you in print! I used a box of your cards (the same you pictured, actually) as my Swap Gift at my December knit night a couple of weeks ago, and it was the hit of the night. (Everyone brings a gift and draws a number telling them in which order they pick and unwrap a gift. Each recipient then chooses whether to keep the one they opened or "swap" for a previously opened one. Yours kept getting taken up by the next person! A big hit. And whenever I use them, people always comment on how lovely they are. Happy New Year, Denise! I hope the Vogue knitting piece is just a kick-off for a great year ahead.

  22. Wow! Congratulations! That is such exciting news. I didn't think real people got to be in Vogue. Having worked for them briefly I thought you had to pay or suck up, so this means that you must be extra special!!

  23. Wow, I've only recently come across your blog. I looked at that painting and thought it was a picture of a wip while I was scrolling through. :D And congrats on the publication.

Also, sorry to hear of your brother's passing and your Lily's ailments. Remember to take some time for yourself while everything happens so that you can cope and greive too. :)
