Alene Camisole

I got a bit of a fright when I realised that I had 8 projects on the go, so on Sunday night, instead of forging ahead with my Mariah sleeve, I pulled out the Alene Camisole, and finished it. There was no knitting to be done, just sewing up the straps, making a casing for the elastic (under the bust), putting in the elastic, making a cord, and then darning in the endless ends. Fiddly stuff. But I did it, and it's finished, and it's even nice to wear!

Dotter is modelling this for me - her bust is much smaller than mine, so it's a little big on her, but there are limits to what I'll put online ;)

Things I learnt from this project? I can unravel and dye cotton (this used to be a Land's End little girl's bright pink top), and it looks cool. I don't much like knitting with cotton to make lace, it splits all the time and is annoying. And I can delay finishing a project with the best of them - knitting was basically finished in October last year!

So now I have 7 things on the go - the Peppercorn Shawl has to be done soon though, as it's for an early May birthday. In terms of ancient projects that need a hit on the head, I'll try to finish off the Short Circuit Scarf next.

And thanks everyone for your encouraging comments on my last post - I'm glad it struck a chord for so many of you!

  5. Love the stitch definition in the lace - the cotton may be annoying to knit but you can't deny that it looks fantastic!

  6. It does look fabulous! Really pretty design.
Thanks for dropping by my blog. I know what you mean about the black, black, black. My daughter went through that stage too, even to the extent of black nail polish and lipstick .. eek!

  7. Gorgeous work Jejune, the lace detail is stunning. I am just so impressed that the yarn used to be something else entirely.

  8. that's beautiful. Must be so satisfying to finish it. My ufos are all little and still managed to hang around tormenting me indefinitely.

  9. Very pretty - lovely soft colour. Looks good on Dotter too. Now only 7 to go!! I only have 4 at the moment - just finished the nephew's cricket vest (now you know who this is!)

  10. GORGEOUS! Fills me with lust to make one myself. I don't like knitting with cotton either, but I like wearing it - go figure. I had a think about UFOs (or WIPs) and I really only have three on the go ATM, and one of them is the inevitable pair of socks that I always have on the go. Three is an amazingly small number for me!

  12. The lace work looks so soft - I'd never have guessed it was cotton!

Thanks for your openness about perfectionism - I can relate. Sometimes knitting, my #1 hobby, gets really frustrating and I get really stressed. That's when I realise something is seriously wrong and I need to back off a bit!
